Beasts and My Obsession with the Bayou

Wow. So I realized that when I'm having a hard time, I kind of avoid talking to people. This, apparently, includes posting anything on my blog. Ha.

After a really hard semester of school, work, interning, and serious back problems, I'm now in Arizona melting and trying to be productive at my current internship while dealing with back problems...still.

Anyway, I saw this movie trailer for Beasts of the Southern Wild and wanted to post it because is seems really amazing. I know it just came out in theaters. Has anyone seen this yet? As far as I can tell, it's impossible to find this film in the Phoenix area right now. Sigh. Not that I could currently sit through a movie, anyway. Check it out:

Oh, the shame

Although there have been, and still are, moments where I have really enjoyed those slapstick stupid comedy movies, it really hasn't happened of late. I generally lose patience and get annoyed with the stupid humor. In that vein, I am a little ashamed to say that the previews for Step Brothers have been making me laugh out loud. I'm pretty sure I couldn't stand to see the whole movie, though.

Twilight Trailer

Okay you Twilight fans - what do you think of the trailer? Good? Horrible? Right now I have mixed feelings and I think that I will withhold judgment.

Magical Trees

I have this weird desire to have huge trees in my yard someday (a lot of them), and have slightly hidden tree faces on some of them. Call me weird, but I think it's kinda cool and magical - I can just see kids playing with talking trees (the images are just from a Google search).
Anyway, so I was thinking of reasons why this seems to fun and magical to me. I first thought of Pocahontas with the talking tree that is an old woman (which by the way, my nephew was totally freaked by when the talking tree in the MGM Grand Rainforest Cafe came to like and started moving and talking). Barring that, I am intrigued by the idea. My favorite example, though, I think is from the all-time classic Labyrinth. If you haven't viewed this 80s cinematic wonder featuring David Bowie (in the tightest pants known to man outside of the ballet world) and Jennifer Connelly, you absolutely MUST watch it. As kids we used to watch the film non-stop and to this day I still have the lyrics memorized. "You remind me of the babe. What babe? The babe with the power. What power? The power of voodoo. Who do? You do. Do What? Remind me of the babe." I'll stop there. I came across this amazing trailer for the movie on YouTube and wanted to share it with you all. Really, if you want to see the movie I do have a copy and you can come over anytime. It will be an event that you will never forget.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Another movie that I really want to see: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Check out the site - it sounds really amazing. By the way, I did see La Vie En Rose which was amazing. Pretty intense and kind of in-your-face, but the acting was magnificent and the whole story mind-boggling. (not very happy, though)

Persepolis

I want to see all of these movies. I think I might die if I don't see them (or at least La Vie En Rose and Persepolis). Click on the poster if you want to know more about the movie.

North & South

Today I was on call for work but didn't have to go in today. As it was fairly overcast outside, I thought it would be the perfect day for working on some Christmas presents while watching one of the best movies ever: North & South. If you haven't heard of North & South, you should definitely look up this BBC drama for yourself. A girl in my bookbinding class mentioned it and said that it was better than Pride and Prejudice. Facing such an outlandish statement, I felt that I had to give it a test. I loved it and still love it. Probably one of the best ending scenes ever. I could (and probably have) watch it 10 times in a row. The whole thing is about 4 hours long. A period piece set in industrial England, it captures the complete cultural differences between the north and the south, as well as the horrible conditions of the Inustrial Revolution. Anyway, I will stop talking now, but I definitely recommend you see this. Except for Sarah, because Jenny and I decided that you have to see this with one of us (she bought it after she watched it with me).
